2021 Mnet Asian Music Awards Confirm BTS Won’t Participate

BTS will not be performing at the Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA) this year.

On December 2, a source from MAMA revealed to Sports Donga, “BTS was in talks to make an appearance, but it was decided that they would not appear. It will be difficult to shoot a performance video due to their schedule, but we are preparing a short video for their fans.

Due to the new Omicron COVID-19 variant, the South Korean government is imposing heightened restrictions on people entering the country. Anyone entering Korea on or after December 3 must self-quarantine for 10 days, regardless of their vaccination status.

BTS is currently conducting activities in Los Angeles, United States, and they have an upcoming performance during the 2021 iHeartRadio Jingle Ball Tour on December 3 (local time). Because 2021 MAMA takes place on December 11, it is impossible for BTS to complete their mandatory 10-day self-quarantine in time after arriving in Korea.

Additionally, in response to a question about the possibility that the offline portion of the event may be canceled due to the government’s COVID-19 prevention measures, MAMA’s source said, “We are keeping an eye on the situation and let you know if there are any changes.

2021 MAMA begins at 6 p.m. KST on December 11 and will be broadcast live worldwide. Check out the full list of artists here and the nominees here.
