BTS set to perform at MNET 2020 Asian Music Awards
K-Pop superstars BTS are set to perform this year at the MNET Asian Music Awards, or MAMA, the biggest music awards ceremony in Asia.
Entertainment and lifestyle company CJ ENM announced the news of BTS’s performance on Wednesday night. With the release of their new album To be As November 20 approaches, the band’s performance will certainly be highly anticipated, as it will likely be one of their first appearances after the album’s release.
MAMA will take place on December 6 and will be broadcast virtually to a global audience. Official voting for the awards began on October 29 and will run through December 5 at midnight Korean Standard Time via the MAMA website. One hundred million votes have already been cast.
BTS is up for five awards at this year’s ceremony: Artist of the Year, Song of the Year with “Dynamite”, Fan Choice Worldwide, Best Male Group and Best Male Dance Performance Group for “Dynamite”.
The Asian Music Awards (MAMA) are produced by CJ ENM and had their first show in 1999. In addition to attracting top artists from Asia, such as BTS, TWICE, BIG BANG, 2NE1 and GOT7, the show has also featured global superstars like Stevie Wonder, Janet Jackson, Snoop Dogg, Dua Lipa and John Legend.
This will not be the first awards show BTS has presented this year. In August, they played MTV VMAs, where they won the award for best group as well as best choreography, best K-pop and best pop for the music video “On”. They also performed at the Billboard Music Awards on October 14, where they won the award for best social artist.
BTS also recently announced that they will be playing the hugely popular battle royale game “Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout” in the next episode of their web series, “Run BTS”.
The episode “Run BTS” will be released on November 10, exclusively through the Weverse app. The K-Pop heroes took on the South Korean esports team League Of Legends, T1, in a previous episode of the series.
