Mnet Asian Music Awards Announce 2021 Nominations with Changed Award Criteria

The Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA) are one of the biggest musical nights in the South Korean music industry. With stages staged all over the world and fans tuning in on all sides, maximum attention is paid to the awards presented throughout the night as well as the many flamboyant performances that adorn the stage in their own unique grandeur. This year, more and more eyeballs are drawn to the changed criteria for the awards.

On November 3, 2021, MAMA announced that the award selection process will not include fan votes for the Daesang categories of Artist of the Year, Song of the Year and Album of the Year. ‘year. Instead, a calculation of multiple factors will be performed as follows.

1. Artist of the year: 40 percent judge ratings, 20 percent digital performance, 20 percent physical album sales, 10 percent music videos, 10 percent global music platform

2. Song of the year: 40% judge ratings, 30% digital performance, 10% physical album sales, 10% music videos, 10% global music platform

3. Album of the year: 40% judge ratings, 10% digital performance, 40% physical album sales, 10% global music platform

However, the last Daesang (grand prix) of World icon of the year will be 100 percent based on fan votes.

Another highlight of the evening is Global Top 10 Fan Choice awards that are also based solely on fan votes and have 50 nominees who will compete for the trophies.

This year’s LAM will take place on December 11 at 6 p.m. KST (2:30 p.m. IST).
